As the foundation of the project’s concept, the riverboat inhibits a rich presence and history on the Ohio River. The primary elements utilized for inspiration are the layering of decks, the spiral of the paddle wheel, and its elegant posture. The Nautical House is located on the Ohio River in Bellevue, Kentucky. It has direct water access and a view of the great Cincinnati Skyline.
The massing of the building evolved into three buildings to hold the appropriate amount of units while providing a surplus of amenity space. The buildings step down with the topography and allow for flow throughout the site. Townhouses are accessed from the ground level to provide a more homely feel and community. Micro, Studio, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, and 3-bedroom apartments are laid out on the remaining levels of each building. They are laid out to provide a variety of options for deck sizes and views to accommodate each patron.
